Gas Pipeline to Remote Mine Site

Updated: Sep 1, 2020

FlowTran was approached by a small-capital, Australian mining company to evaluate gas supply options for the company's remote mine site in central WA, Australia.

Challenges

  • Remoteness of the mine site.

  • Different pipeline size and configuration options.

  • Cost restrictions.

  • Environmental constraints.

Solution

During the concept phase, the commercial advisor to the project was able to build a model of the pipeline using FlowTran-X to calculate pressure drops for different pipeline sizes and flows.

Outcome

The pipeline advisor to the developer was able to develop models of the proposed pipeline and its interconnection with existing systems and simulate different flow and pressure scenarios.

Having flow and pressure scenarios available, allowed the developer to work with its engineering consultant and pipeline constructor to optimise the design both technically and commercially.
